- Édition 2026 · Mois du Consommer local
- 26–30 October 2026
- CICES, Dakar
- ADEPME and the DPME, under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry and Trade
The “October, Buy Local Month” initiative, launched in 2019 by the WAEMU Trade Ministers, has gradually become a structuring framework for mobilising support for local production and the promotion of endogenous resources.
In an international context marked by persistent geopolitical tensions, rising tariff barriers and uncertainty over preferential regimes, the Union's economies need to strengthen their resilience and consolidate their economic sovereignty. The impact of international crises, combined with changes in world trade, underlines the urgency of building a regional productive system able to process local resources, create value and reduce external dependence.
In Senegal, this direction finds particular resonance in Vision Senegal 2050, which makes industrialisation the central pillar of structural transformation. The national strategy stresses the need to densify value chains, strengthen SME competitiveness and bring national sectors further into regional and continental dynamics.
Despite the progress made, the food processing, craft, textile, pharmaceutical and technology sectors still struggle to reach a level of organisation that would let them compete fully on regional and international markets. The 2026 edition of Buy Local Month is therefore about consolidating, amplifying and aligning national and regional efforts.
